Portrait decorated Sevres plaques are among the more unusual items at Woodwards auction in Cork on May 14.  Napoleon Bonaparte, Josephine and Marie Louise feature on three plates decorated with the Napoleonic crest. Kings Louis XV and Louis XVI, Madame du Barry and Marie Antoinette feature on a set of four Sevres plaques.  The sale is strong in antique furniture and choices include a Regency rosewood card table, an Irish Regency serving table, a Georgian wine cooler, a large Edwardian bookcase, a French oval inlaid desk, Victorian hall chairs and a pair of cast iron garden seats.  The catalogue is online. A late 17th century bronze Ming censer sold for 24,000 at Sheppards three day auction this week. From the collection of Lady Lister Kaye of Mearescourt House, Co. Westmeath it had been estimated at 3,000-5,000.  At the same sale a pair of 19th century Japanese Meiji period vases sold for 10,000 over a top estimate of 3,000.  An Irish George III mahogany armorial seat c1800 sold for 14,000 over a top estimate of 5,000. It is similar to a suite of hall chairs at Castle Coole, Co. Fermanagh.

THIS set of Cork six bar chairs comes up at Lynes and Lynes in Carrigtwohill, Co. Cork on April 26.  The eight chairs are similar to a set sold from the  Dunkathel House Collection some years ago.  Cork eleven bar chairs are prized by collectors, as are nine bar chairs.  Six bar chairs are rarer and they tend to be earlier.  This set is estimated at 1,200-1,500.  Here are some more lots from the sale.  The catalogue is online at www.lynesandlynes.com 

More than 500 lots will come under the hammer at Matthews sale at Headfort House, Kells, Co. Meath on April 13.  Among the more unusual lots is an antique marble bust of August FitzClarence, the illegitimate son of the Duke of Clarence, later King William IV, and his Irish mistress Dorothea Jordan by Thomas Sharp and a marquetry jewellery box stamped Tahan, who was master cabinet maker to Napoleon III and the Empress Eugenie.    Furniture includes a fine four door breakfront bookcase.  The catalogue is online.
