    IRELAND’S WINTER ART SALE SEASON NOW UNDERWAY

    The winter art sale season with a feast in store is kick started in Ireland this weekend by Art Source at the RDS. With more than 200 artists and galleries this is Ireland’s largest art fair with a huge selection of affordable art. Highlights include a portrait of Mick Jagger by Andy Warhol and work by Tracey Emin exhibited by Gormleys. Expected to draw more than 15,000 visitors the event features the Irish debut of Naples based Fonderia Artistica Ruocco.

    This is a prelude to the season’s major sales of important Irish art.  An online sale by Morgan O’Driscoll on November 24 with highlights by Yeats, O’Malley, Blackshaw and George Mounsey Wheatley Atkinson will be followed by Dublin auctions by de Veres and Gormleys on November 25.  Roderic O’Conor, William Leech, Paul Henry, Yeats and Mainie Jellett are at de Veres. Adams on November 26 offers art by Paul Henry, Yeats, Harry Clarke, Camille Souter, Gerard Dillon, Mary Swanzy and Hughie O’Donoghue. Among the highlights at Whyte’s on December 1 is work by John Luke, Paul Henry, Grace Henry, Frank McKelvey, Louis le Brocquy, Rowan Gillespie, Donald Teskey and John Behan.

    ART SOURCE AT THE RDS THIS WEEKEND

    Art Source, Ireland’s largest art fair, is at the RDS from November 14-16. It offers a selection of affordable art and a range of pieces from artists like Tracey Emin and Andy Warhol. The event will feature the Irish debut of Fonderia Artistica Ruocco – a foundry from Naples, Italy.  And spray-paint artist Hernán González and mural artist SOLUS will bring Dublin street art to the RDS.

    Art Source is at the RDS in Dublin from today until November 17. The fair offers everything from  pristine prints of Andy Warhol’s iconic Marilyn series to Irish and international artists and a good selection of affordable art. Organisers anticipate that more than 15,000 people will visit over the weekend. 

    A WEEK OF AUCTIONS, FAIRS AND EXHIBITIONS IN IRELAND

    A busy week of  auctions, fairs and exhibitions on the home front is book ended by  Art Source at the RDS this weekend and the National Antiques and Vintage Fair at Limerick Racecourse next weekend. At Art Source Gormleys will feature an exhibition by Damien Hirst and the work of around 160 artists will be on display.

    Online auctions by O’Donovan’s in Newcastlewest and Aidan Foley in Kilcolgan, Co. Galway will take place respectively today and tomorrow. Sunday will also see a sale by Sean Eacrett in Ballybrittas, Co. Laois. On Monday it will be the turn of Milltown Auction Rooms, Dundalk.  Among the prime lots at Hegarty’s sale in Bandon on Wednesday is a 19th century Killarney work table. Viewing for Fonsie Mealy’s sale of Irish and International art on Wednesday gets underway in Castlecomer on Monday.  A fine Yeats, re-discovered Aran Island works by Sean Keating and works by John Shinnors, John Behan, Pauline Bewick and Daniel MacLise will feature.

    The National Antique Fair at Limerick Racecourse on November 19 and 20 will bring more than 80 dealers from right around Ireland.  Organiser Robin O’Donnell will exhibit at his own fair for the first time.

    Robin O’Donnell will offer this Irish Regency rosewood teapoy at the National Antique Fair.

    A SHAGGY DOG STORY AT ART SOURCE

    PATRICK O’REILLY – WOLFHOUND

    This two metre high bronze Irish wolfhound will form the centrepiece of a sculpture garden at Art Source – the Irish contemporary art fair – at the RDS, Dublin from November 11-13. Around 45 artists will have work on display at the sculpture garden which will be at Gormley’s stand.

    “The wolfhound is a giant amongst dogs and deserved to be made into a giant sculpture,” the sculptor said. “Nothing represents Ireland better than the gentle quality of our nature and this is reflected in how I have visualised the wolfhound. They are the tallest dogs in the world but also have the sweetest nature and any country would be proud to have it as a symbol.”

    BANKSY AT ART SOURCE IN DUBLIN

    The largest collection of Banksy’s work exhibited in Ireland will feature at Art Source, at the RDS from November 15-17. Gormleys Fine Art will display 12 screen prints by the anonymous British-based artist. Over 15,000 people are expected to attend Art Source which features 200 contemporary Irish and international artists and galleries.

    Iconic Irish sculptor Patrick O’Reilly will unveil new work including a standing wolfhound, a rocking horse and a series of dolls. Art Source showcases painting, sculpture, photography, illustration, prints and ceramic art.

    BANKSY WORKS ON SHOW IN DUBLIN

    Banksy – Girl with Balloon

    Works by Banksy, the world famous anonymous British street artist, are set to wow the crowd at Art Source, the Irish art fair which runs at the RDS from November 10-12.  Gormleys Fine Art will show a selection of screen prints including  Banksy’s iconic Flying Copper image of a policeman, Girl With A Balloon and his Tesco Tomato Soup can parody on the work by Andy Warhol.  “We get Banksy‘s work through an external company and each piece comes with a certificate of proof that it is an original piece by the artist,” Oliver Gormley explained.  “There is massive interest in Banksy, his work is very eye catching and people tend to do a double take when they see you have an original by him on display,” he added.  Prices for the pieces on display range from 9,000 for Napalm up to 150,000 for Heavy Weaponry.

    More than 130 contemporary artists and 20 Irish and international galleries will gather together to showcase painting, sculpture, photography, illustration, prints and ceramic art at Art Source.  More than 15,000 people are expected to attend.
