    YEATS STUDIO CONTENTS AT GORMLEYS SALE IN DUBLIN

    Items from the studio of Jack B Yeats.

    A Jack B Yeats studio collection which includes a drawing in colours and a sketch, paintbrushes, opened and unopened Winsor and Newton paints, pencils, chalk, palettes, monogrammed blank sketchbooks, and a vintage studio ephemera comes up at Gormley’s auction in Dublin on March 10. The collection is expected to make in excess of €50,000. After his death in 1957 the contents of his Fitzwilliam Square home in Dublin were inherited by his niece Anne Yeats, daughter of the poet W B Yeats. Of particular note are a Cornish Wafers tin serving as a paint box with the initials JB and Paint Tubes handwritten on both the lid and box exterior, and an original paintbox with extendible tripod legs which serves as a wall mounted easel.  A portrait of Yeats by Liam O’Neill also features in a collection to be auctioned as part of an Irish and international art auction by Gormleys

    Chinese Chippendale Mirror  UPDATE: THIS MADE 650 AT HAMMER

    The estimate on this Chinese Chippendale carved wood and gilt mirror surmounted by an eagle is €1,200-€2,200. It comes up as lot 15 at Gormley’s auction of contents from St. Martin’s, Trim, Co. Meath on January 27 at 5 pm. Around 480 lots will come under the hammer. St. Martin’s is the house where actor Mel Gibson stayed while Braveheart was being filmed in Ireland. On offer is the unique collection of Meath publican, hotelier and businessman Gerry Brady, who hosted the cast and crew. On offer is a 60 year collection of furniture, art, porcelain, glass and pub memorabilia. The catalogue is online.

    VICTORIAN CAST IRON STAIRCASE AT GORMLEY’S SALE

    Victorian Cast Iron Spiral Staircase. UPDATE: THIS MADE 320 AT HAMMER

    This Victorian cast iron spiral staircase (€400-€800) is among the feature lots at Gormley’s online sale of the collection of Arthur Livingstone of Cuiltybar House, Coolaney, Co. Sligo and other clients on June 17 and 18. The top lot is a 1971 Citroen DS21 with rare right hand drive and refurbished interior (€40,000-€45,000).  The sale is now on view at Coolaney. A total of 850 lots including vintage cars, pocket watches, walking sticks, clocks, scientific instruments, books, furniture and art will come under the hammer. The catalogue is online.

    BECKETT BY LE BROCQUY AT GORMLEYS

    A watercolour of Samuel Beckett by Louis le Brocquy is among the highlights at Gormley’s evening online art auction in Belfast  on February 23).  It is estimated at €19,100-€22,750. A bronze standing Irish wolfhound by Stephen McKeown is estimated at €11,500-€17,000.  There is a print by Damien Hirst, a lithograph by Salvador Dali and work by Maurice Wilks, Charles McAuley, Brian Ballard, Gladys McCabe, Markey Robinson and other well known Irish artists.
