The Spire by the Northern Irish artist Colin Davidson – who painted a portrait of Angela Merkel for the cover of Time Magazine in 2015 – was the top lot at Gormley’s Auctions online sale of Irish art on June 2. It made a hammer price of £7,600. Davidson lives and works near Belfast.
