    BRONZE CLASSICAL LIONS MAKE 4,500 AT HAMMER

    This exceptional pair of bronze garden classical lions with a top estimate of 4,000 sold for a hammer price of €4,500 at Hegarty’s sale in Bandon today. They attracted a number of competitive bidders on the phone and the internet. An 18th century Irish silver teapot made 1,700, an early 19th century silver serving platter and mazarin grill by Paul Storr made 6,900 and a pair of foldover rosewood card tables made 4,400.

    Bidding is  underday for the timed online At Home sale at James Adam in Dublin which begins to close at 10 am on June 9.  There is garden furniture, a big selection of silver including some Cork pieces, jewellery, antique furniture, art, porcelain and collectibles including a pair of 19th century brass starting cannons.

    BRIDGE OVER THE AWBEG AT BUTTEVANT CASTLE

    An unframed, unsigned pencil sketch – “Bridge over the Awbeg at Buttevant Castle” – comes up at  Aidan Foley’s online auction at Doneraile today.  Lot 301 dates to the 1840’s and seems to be in good condition.  A purchaser might set out to solve the mystery of who made it.  The auction features a broad mix of antique furniture and collectible items as well as art by Albert Hartland, Arthur Maderson, Pauline Bewick, Con Campbell, Lorna Miller, Marie Carroll and others.

    A selection of furniture, art, silver , garden furniture and jewellery will come under the hammer at Hegarty’s online sale in Bandon tomorrow. Among the highlights are an 18th century Irish silver teapot made in Dublin in 1796 and a silver fork by the Limerick maker Maurice Fitzgerald.  Lots of note include an exceptional pair of bronze garden classical lions and a mid 18th century Irish Georgian tea table.

    IRISH SILVER DISH RING AT ADAMS AT HOME SALE

    This George III Irish silver dish ring is lot 48 at the James Adam timed online At Home sale in Dublin on June 9. It was made in Dublin c1775 by Ambrose Boxwell and is estimated at 800-1,200. The online catalogue lists 110 lots of silver and plate as well as a large selection of jewellery, furniture and collectibles. UPDATE: THIS MADE 1,600 AT HAMMER

    This 1960’s lounge chair by Luigi Vietta and produced by Fratelli Besana comes up as lot 23 at Mullen’s Classic and Contemporary Interiors sale at Laurel Park, Bray, Co. Wicklow on June 7. It is estimated at 340-440. The sale of 798 lots gets underway at 6 pm.

    PAUL HENRY (1877-1958) – COTTAGES IN ACHILL

    Cottages in Achill by Paul Henry made a hammer price of 210,000 over a top estimate of 160,000 at the James Adam sale of Important Irish Art in Dublin this evening. Another top lot was an original copy of the Proclamation of the Irish Republic signed by the printer Christoper Brady. Inscribed on the rear is that it was obtained in Sackville St., Dublin on Easter Monday, April 24, 1916. It made a hammer price of 170,000 over an estimate of 150,000-200,000.

    This mid 18th century Irish Georgian fold over tea table comes up at Hegarty’s online auction in Bandon, Co. Cork on June 6 with an estimate of €1,000-€1,400. The sale will include two Cork family collections from Oysterhaven and Kinsale and offers a variety of antique furniture, silver, art and jewellery. A late 18th century Limerick silver fork by Maurice Fitzgerald is estimated at €850-1,000. UPDATE: THE TABLE MADE 1,000 AT HAMMER. THE LIMERICK SILVER FORK MADE 700.

    RUSSIAN WORKS OF ART AT SOTHEBY’S ONLINE SALE

    An Important Imperial Presentation jewelled gold and guilloché enamel snuffbox, by workmaster Nikolai Chernokov, Bolin, St Petersburg, 1908-1917 comes up at Sotheby’s sale of Russian Works of Art, Fabergé & Icons which runs in London from today until June 9. It was presented to Vice Admiral Count Carl August Ehrensvärd (1858-1944) by Emperor Nicholas II during his state visit to Sweden in 1909 and is estimated at £200,000-300,000. The cypher of Emperor Nicholas II set with rose-cut diamonds is applied to the lid. The sale brings together an unprecedented group of imperial presentation pieces and a rare group of twenty-four Russian Military Orders from an Important Swiss Collection, including a rare Collar of the Order of St Andrew and a seldom seen diamond-set, silver-topped, gold-mounted and enamel Grand Cross set of insignia for the Order of St Catherine, circa 1890.

    NEWTON’S HANDWRITTEN REVISIONS TO PRINCIPIA AT CHRISTIE’S

    draft revisions to three sections of the first edition of the Philosophiae naturalis principia mathematica,
    a heavily corrected draft with three additional notes by the Scottish mathematician
    and astronomer David Gregory. (£600,000–900,000)

    Isaac Newton’s (1642-1727) handwritten revisions to the Principia, arguably the most important single work in the history of science, will come up at Christie’s in London on July 8. The estimate for the work, which will feature at the Exceptional Sale, is £600,000–900,000. This is an unpublished, working manuscript for Newton’s projected and ultimately abandoned second edition, and includes additional notes by the Scottish mathematician and astronomer David Gregory (1659-1708). The manuscript was in the archive of Gregory until  the 1860’s, and was most recently in the notable collection of Maurice Car. UPDATE: THIS MADE £1,702,500
