Contemporary art from the Peter Norton Collection will be offered by Christie’s in New York in November. The single owner collection, to be offered at sales on November 8 and 9, is expected to realise around $25 million.
Artists in the collection include Matthew Barney, Mark Bradford, Sophie Calle, Maurizio Cattelan, Robert Gober, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, David Hammons, Jim Hodges, Barbara Kruger, Paul McCarthy, Takashi Murakami, Yoshitomo Nara, Charles Ray, Fred Tomaselli, Kara Walker and Christopher Wool.
A Silicon Valley pioneer Peter Norton created a series of highly successful software programs including the pioneering Norton™ AntiVirus. He also became an active and adventurous collector of the work of emerging artists. In 2000, over 1,000 works from the collection were gifted to 32 institutions.
