A vintage lake boat formerly owned by Hollywood actress Maureen O’Hara is among the lots at Hegarty’s online sale in Bandon on Wednesday April 12. Painted red and blue it was the private boat at her Glengarriff estate and is complete with a Mercury motor. It is estimated at €3,500-€4,500. Among the other lots are an Art Deco diamond ring, a fall front bureau, a pair of 19th century bronze ewers, mustard spoons by James Salter, Cork, 1823 and six George IV silver teaspoons by John Seymour, Cork c1820.

A life size bronze sculpture of a horse and jockey, a large cast iron gazebo and a group of large Italianate stone figures are among the leading lots at Sheppards annual Glantelwe gardens sale in Durrow, Co. Laois on June 28 and 29. These are large garden pieces but the sale of 724 lots of architectural ornaments and garden sculpture offers something for every garden, large or small.
Conversation pieces include lot 486, a 19th century horse drawn coach complete with carriage lights from the estate of the late Maureen O’Hara. It is estimated at €4,000-€6,000. Or how about lot 501, two large metal milk churns (€150-€250). An exercise in imagination might land an appetising spot for these in many gardens. There are lovely cast iron garden benches, stone sculptures, bronzes, estate entrance gates, troughs, planters, marble sculpture, staddle stones, 19th century urns, pedestals, finials, bollards, sundials, tree guards, tables, chairs, arches, jardinieres, spheres and fountains. A fine 19th century horse drawn carriage from the Maureen O’Hara Collection will come under the hammer in Cork on October 15 when Sheppards offer entire contents of Carragnanes House and terraced gardens at Scotsman’s Road, Monkstown, Cork. Viewing is underway at the house, the sale of nearly 700 lots will be held at the Maryborough Hotel. On offer is a large selection of garden statuary and furniture, musical instruments, antique and contemporary furniture and collectible items. The jewellery of Hollywood film star Maureen O’Hara attracted competitive bidding at Sheppard’s sale in Durrow today. An 18 carat white gold brilliant cut 8.3 carat diamond ring with baguette diamond shoulders sold for 120,000 at hammer. A solitaire 5.03 carat diamond ring made a hammer price of 46,000.
A natural Colombian emerald pendant made 46,000 and a Colombian emerald and brilliant cut diamond bangle sold for 70,000. Her full length Dior white mink coat made 2,800 at hammer.

Maureen O’Hara’s Christian Dior full length white mink coat comes up at Sheppards sale in Durrow next Wednesday. Trimmed with Arctic fox fur and lined with silk it represents the pinnacle of Hollywood glamour and luxury. The west Cork collection of the Hollywood actress, who died in 2015, includes diamond rings and a Colombian emerald pendant and bangle.
The two day sale next Tuesday and Wednesday also features the collection of former President Mary Robinson who is downsizing from Massbrook Lodge in Mayo to Dublin. Viewing in Durrow is from 10 am to 5 pm today, tomorrow and Monday.
