Antique furniture, mirrors, rugs, jewellery, silver, paintings, porcelain and collectibles will come under the hammer at a two day sale by Matthews in Kells, Co. Meath on June 27 and 28. A number of auctions will go ahead in Ireland over the coming weekend, though in changed circumstances. Sales by Aidan Foley in Doneraile in North Cork on March 21 and by Hegarty’s in Bandon on March 22 will go ahead as online only auctions. The antique and collectors auction scheduled to take place at Charleville Castle, Tullamore, Co. Offaly on December 6 has been postponed for one week to December 13. As Storm Desmond continued to batter Ireland today Matthews Auctioneers of Oldcastle took a last minute decision to postpone the sale.
It will be held instead on Sunday, December 13. The venue is a remarkably original and unrestored castle, The catalogue, which includes property from an unnamed charitable trust and props decommissioned from Ardmore Studios, Bray, Co. Wicklow, lists 784 lots.
More than 580 lots will come under the hammer at a house contents auction in Howth on Sunday, June 21 at 2 pm. Matthews Auctioneers will offer contents from Longacre, Thormanby Road, Howth with about 50 lots from another Dublin residence. The catalogue is online. Here is a small selection:
