    REASONABLE ESTIMATES AT LYNES AND LYNES

    Choice antique items are reasonably estimated at the Lynes and Lynes sale in Carrigtwohill, Co. Cork on October 10.  An antique mahogany shop display cabinet from Macroom – a once off lot if ever there was one – has an estimate of 1,000-1,500.  The value to be had in furniture right now is underlined by items such as a Victorian inlaid walnut work box with swivel top complete with chess board and backgammon board estimated at just 500-700, a Victorian gilt over mantle (400-600) and a Cork tray back sideboard (300-500).  The catalogue is online.

    IRISH GEORGIAN SIDE TABLE AT LYNES AND LYNES

    An Irish Georgian mahogany side table with brass gallery is among a fine mix of antique and modern furniture, collectors items, paintings, porcelain, glass and garden effects at Lynes and Lynes in Carrigtwohill, Co. Cork on August 22.  In original condition it is estimated at 4,000-6,000. Other lots include a gilt over mantle (1,000-1,500) and a set of Cork 11 bar dining chairs (2,000-3,000). Underlining the value that continues to exist in antique furniture is a mahogany and satinwood banded circular dining table with an estimate of just 400-600 and a an Irish mahogany linen press with an estimate of just 400-600.  A pair of French console table with mirrors is estimated at 1,000-1,500. Collectors will be interested in a set of old Cork Opera House programmes and the sale also offers some old GAA match programmes.

    There will be memories of happier times on the Lusitania at Lynes and Lynes in Carrigtwohill, Co. Cork on May 23.  The centenary of the sinking of the Cunarder, with the loss of 1,198 lives in an act of war off the coast of Cork, was marked earlier this month. Among 300 lots at Lynes and Lynes is a breakfast menu from the vessel in June 1910 along with two dinner plates, a silk ribbon worn at the launch in 1906 and a boxed medal.  They will be sold as one lot with an estimate of just 100-200.  The catalogue for the sale is on line.
