    DOLAN’S SALE AT KELLY’S HOTEL, ROSSLARE THIS WEEKEND

    Kelly’s Resort Hotel at Rosslare Strand in Co. Wexford is the venue for Dolan’s spring auction of art and antiques on Bank Holiday Sunday, May 6, at 2 pm.   Viewing is now underway for this auction of nearly 300 lots.  Among them is a work by Nassau Blair Browne from Kilkenny who was Governor of the National Gallery of Ireland from 1918 to 1924.  The catalogue is online.     WEBB’S ROUNDSTONE THE TOP LOT AT FONSIE MEALY

    The Crouching Venus

    A painting by Kenneth Webb was the top lot at Fonsie Mealy’s summer art sale in Castlecomer this year.  The Fish Market at Roundstone sold for a hammer price of 15,000. A set of four stained glass panels of saints from The Earley Studios in Dublin sold for 11,000 at hammer. A 17th century Italian School of Moses Striking the Rock attributed to Bernardo Cavilling made 10,500 at hammer and The Crouching Venus, a white marble Italian School c1800 sculpture originally at Powerscourt sold for 8,000 at hammer.

    Other top hammer prices included a pair of Irish duelling pistols (8,000), a 12 bore Purdey shotgun (5,600), a stained glass panel of St. Patrick (5,500), an oval enamel plaque portrait by J. Sadler, Liverpool (5,200), two Carrara marble statues of The Blessed Virgin and The Sacred Heart (5,000) and an Irish George III period bookcase (5,000).

    A PRINT BY ROBERT BALLAGH AT DOLAN’S

    The art and antiques sale by Dolan’s in Rosslare on May 1 kicks off with a limited edition colour print by Robert Ballagh entitled My Studio 1969.  One of an edition of 75 it is estimated at 500 to 800.  Kelly’s Hotel in Rosslare is the venue for this auction of more than 300 lots.  The emphasis is on art, but there sale features a selection of reasonably estimated rugs, small antique furniture pieces, silver and collectible objects.  The catalogue is online.     DOLAN’S AUCTION AT ROSSLARE ON MAY BANK HOLIDAY SUNDAY

    Dolan’s will kick off the summer season with an art and antiques auction at Kelly’s Hotel in Rosslare May 1, bank holiday Sunday.  There is a varied collection of paintings, watercolours, prints, sculpture, antique furniture, silver, china, rugs and collectible items.  Artists featured include Norah McGuinness, Flora Mitchell, Kenneth Webb, Brian Ballard, Mark O’Neill, Arthur Maderson, Charles Harpur, Markey Robinson,  Carina Scott, Norman Teeling, Fergus O’Ryan and Frank Egginton.
