A total of 341 varied lots will come under the hammer at the James Adam At Home sale in Dublin on August 23. There is silver, jewellery, watches, paintings, collectibles and antique furniture including this c1830 Irish rosewood three seater settee in the manner of Mack, Williams and Gibton. Baigneuse Assise, a soft ground etching by Pierre Renoir, comes up at the James Adam online Works on Paper sale which runs until August 10. From an edition of 1,000 a complete with the artist’s stamped signature, it is estimated at 800-1,200. The sale of 435 lots includes old Irish maps, engraved views and etchings, handcoloured Cuala Press prints, art, various documents, photographs and books.

Would a c1960 Italian sideboard by Dassi (€2,000-€3,000) offer both form and function to suit you? An appealing set of six c1940 dining chairs in the manner of Louis Majorelle (€1,000-€1,500) would look good anywhere and could be set off to great effect with Pink Dawn by Felim Egan (€4,000-€6,000). A rosewood swivel chair by Ico Parisi for Mim (€600-€800) would definitely draw the eye at a zoom meeting in your home office.The most expensively estimated lots in the sale are all artworks, headed by Untitled No. 76 (2010) by Callum Innes (€15,000-€20,000). The most expensive furniture lots are a pair of upholstered lounge chairs and a pair of glass topped tables both by Ico Parisi and estimated at €4,000-€6,000.The sale offers Murano glass, a black lacquered console table, ceiling lights, floor lights, wall lights and lamps, Eames chairs, tables, drinks trolleys and lockers in a variety of styles and designs.
A set of 12 William IV rosewood dining chairs with an estimate of €3,000-€5,000 is the most expensively estimated lot at the James Adam At Home online sale in Dublin on July 5. Bidding options for this 347 lot sale of antique furniture, paintings, books, jewellery, silver and collectibles are available at Adams. A c1780 Limerick silver tablespoon by Morris Fitzgerald is estimated at €300-€400 and a pair of large Meissen models of exotic birds carry an estimate of €1,000-€2,000.There are Waterford Crystal chandeliers, rugs, mirrors, Sevres urns, a wine cooler and a 19th century giltwood marble topped console table. A selection of Chinese export porcelain will generate interest. One of the more unusual lots is Robert Morrissons (1782-1834) 19th century dictionary of the Chinese language. In three parts this is estimated at €3,000-€4,000. A Russian Gardener porcelain figure of a glazier made in Moscow in the 19th century is estimated at €1,000-€1,500. UPDATE: The dictionary sold for a hammer price of 12,000, the Gardener porcelian made 2,800 and the chairs made 3,000.
In Dublin Adams has re-scheduled a number of postponed sales to July and September. The Important Irish Art sale which had been scheduled for March is now to take place on September 9. The most expensively estimated lot in this sale is The Sick Bed by Yeats at 250,000-350,000.
The Mid-Century Modern sale is now scheduled for July 28. The auction will be held as a live auction with telephone, commission and internet bidding all available, but there will be no bidding in the room. There will be a timed Works on Paper auction and a timed fine wines and spirits sale on July 31. There will be an At Home sale on August 23 and the fine jewellery and watches sale will now take place on September 15.
ALL auctions at Adams in Dublin have been postponed temporarily. The Collector’s Cabinet auction scheduled for Mullen’s of Laurel Park on March 28 has also been postponed.
The sale scheduled for Hegarty’s in Bandon on March 22 will go ahead as an online only auction. E-mail the auctioneer for condition reports, absentee bids or telephone bids. The two day sale by Matthews of Oldcastle in Kells on March 21 and 22 will go ahead.
This painting of Lobster Pots, Brittany by Norah McGuinness is undated but appears to be from the late 1940’s or early ’50’s. T|here are known examples of paintings by McGuiness of the Breton landscape, such as the Les Bigoudenes in the Niland Collection, Sligo which depicts the Breton women wearing traditional tall lace headdresses of the Pays Bigouden region. This painting appeared in an exhibition of McGuinness work at the Leicester Galleries, London, in 1951. Another titled Breton Port which was exhibited in The Irish Exhibition of Living Art, 1950. Lobster Pots is lot 48 at the James Adam sale of Important Irish Art in Dublin on March 25. It is estimated at 15,000-20,000.
A total of 530 lots of silver, furniture, jewellery, porcelain and collectibles will come under the hammer at the At Home sale at James Adam in Dublin on February 23.
