    AUCTION POSTPONEMENTS AND ONLINE ONLY SALE

    ALL auctions at Adams in Dublin have been postponed temporarily. The Collector’s Cabinet auction scheduled for Mullen’s of Laurel Park on March 28 has also been postponed.

    The sale scheduled for Hegarty’s in Bandon on March 22 will go ahead as an online only auction. E-mail the auctioneer for condition reports, absentee bids or telephone bids. The two day sale by Matthews of Oldcastle in Kells on March 21 and 22 will go ahead.

    An Oriental collection gathered in the Far East –

    including okimono, Satsuma, jade and bronze enamel – will feature at the Hegarty’s auction in Bandon on July 24.  The Ellison collection has been consigned from west Cork.  The late Georgette Ellison, whose husband was a high ranking US military member, started the collection post World War II while they were stationed overseas.  Included is a silver and lacquer smoking companion set presented by Hirohito/Emperor Showa to Mrs Ellison.

    The sale of 350 lots also features some Irish Regency furniture, a Cork two door library bookcase, Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian occasional furniture, a one owner collection of 30 lots of Irish art and twenty lots of silver.

    TREASURE TROVE OF IMAGES WITH MAGIC LANTERN

    A treasure trove of around 300 early slide  images complete with a magic lantern come under the hammer at Hegarty’s sale in Bandon on June 19 at 4 p.m.  It is from The Old Manse in Dunmanway, home since 1873 to the Methodist clergyman.  Hundreds of slides depict Irish 19th century scenes as well as the pyramids in Egypt and the Holy Land.  There are streetscapes, landscapes and pictures of people, many barefoot. One set of slides llustrate the life and works of John Wesley, founder of the Methodists.  The magic lantern was made by Riley Bros. of Bradford. Hegarty’s estimate the lot at 1,500-2,500.  The sale has over 430 lots including furniture, art, collectibles and jewellery.

    UPDATE:  The magic lantern and slides sold for 4,000. This was the joint top lot in a sale where 80 per cent of lots found buyers.  A three stone diamond ring also made 4,000.

    ANTIQUES AND INTERIORS SALE AT HEGARTY’S, BANDON

    The antiques and interiors auction at Hegarty’s in Bandon, Co. Cork on Sunday, April 3 at 4 p.m. will include furniture, jewellery, silver, paintings and ceramics. This is a sale of around 500 lots.  There is a one-owner offering of six 19th century Victorian and Regency sewing and works tables, amassed over the past 20 years.

    The sale includes about 20 lots of jewellery and 20 garden items.  The catalogue is available on-line.  Hegarty’s are located at Parnell Business Park, The By-pass, Bandon and hold regular monthly sales.
