    ANTIQUE FURNITURE AT WOODWARDS IN CORK

    A selection of antique furniture will come up at Woodwards in Cork on June 19. Among the lots on offer are an unusual inlaid Indian card table in need of some restoration (€600-€800) and a Georgian walnut bachelors chest with a similar estimate. Other lots include a Georgian mahogany bureau, a Victorian tambour front desk, a Louis XV inlaid card table,  an Edwardian envelope  card table and a pair of bookcases by Hobbs and Co. London. There is a Glasgow longcase clock, a Chinese Chippendale style cabinet by Edwards and Roberts, a William IV teapoy, a set of six Chippendale style dining chairs and a pair of Art Deco mirrors.  Among the other lots are a Coalbrookdale garden bench, a cast iron five piece garden suite, Waterford Crystal, silver and collectibles.  The sale is on view from 10 am to 5 pm all this week and the catalogue is online.

    IRISH CANDLESTICKS MADE $25,000 AT NEW YORK SALE

    This pair of Irish Rococo candlesticks by the Dublin maker Robert Calderwood sold for $25,000 at South Bay Auctions in New York on June 12. The catalogue note points out that: “The workmanship and quality of this pair of candlesticks places them amongst the finest Irish silver produced in their period, fully equal to the great French silver of the same period. The casting and dimensions match the pair of candlesticks, circa 1745, by Robert Calderwood at The National Museum of Ireland”.

    DUBLIN WHISKEY IN THE RARE OL’ TIMES

    This rare advertising mirror for D.W.D. Whiskey sold for a hammer price of 5,000 at day two of Sheppards online sale of vintage advertising and printed ephemera in Durrow, Co. Laois today. The Dublin Whiskey Distillery Co. on Jones Road was one of six distilleries in Dublin. Located on the banks of the River Tolka it was, in 1872, the last of Dublin’s great distilleries to be built. A Persse’s Galway Whiskey mirror made 4,600 and an original double sided Guinness is Good For You enamel advertising sign with toucan made 2,400.

    COLLECTOR’S CABINET AT MULLENS OF LAUREL PARK

    This poster for Ryan’s Daughter, nominated for four Academy Awards in 1970 and shot in Ireland, comes up at the Collector’s Cabinet timed online auction by Mullen’s of Laurel Park in Bray on June 13. Lot 275 is estimated at 200-300. The sale includes historical memorabilia, early maps, rare and antiquarian books, militaria, arms and armour, Irish silver, sporting memorabilia, comics, rock, pop and cinema.     TREASURES OF A STORIED MANHATTAN COLLECTION AT CHRISTIE’S

    This unusual early 19th century Regency ormolu and patinated bronze mantel comes up at an online sale at Christie’s in New York from June 15-July 1. Treasures of a Storied Manhattan Collection features 130 lots of European furniture and decorative art, Chinese furniture and ceramics, 19th century porcelain and silver, and 20th/21st century works of art from the Park Avenue pied-à-terre formerly owned by Enid Annenberg Haupt, the American publisher and philanthropist. The mantel pictured here, made by Thomas Weeks, is estimated at $70,000-100,000.

    HISTORICAL IRISH ADVERTISING COLLECTORS SALE

    The two day sale of historical Irish advertising material assembled over 40 years by  a private collector in the south east at Sheppards in Durrow on June 10 and 11 has aroused much interest among collectors.  Lots on offer mark the changes over the years from 1880 to 1990 and include some real rarities like this mirror advertisement for Sullivan’s Ales in Kilkenny.     A LEGENDARY LINE AT JULIEN’S MUSIC ICONS SALE

    Alex Van Halen’s custom designed Ludwig drum kit stage played on over 100 shows of Van Halen’s 1980 Invasion tour comes up at Julien’s Music Icons auction live and online from Hollywood on June 11, 12 and 13. Over 1,000 music iconography featuring instruments, memorabilia, wardrobe and personal property owned and used by the greatest 20th and 21st century’s pop culture icons representing the genres of rock and roll, pop, soul, R&B and beyond will be offered. The lineup of legends includes Alex Van Halen, Eddie Van Halen, Kurt Cobain, The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Prince, Elton John, Little Richard, Cher, Lady Gaga, Madonna, Whitney Houston and more.

    BRONZE CLASSICAL LIONS MAKE 4,500 AT HAMMER

    This exceptional pair of bronze garden classical lions with a top estimate of 4,000 sold for a hammer price of €4,500 at Hegarty’s sale in Bandon today. They attracted a number of competitive bidders on the phone and the internet. An 18th century Irish silver teapot made 1,700, an early 19th century silver serving platter and mazarin grill by Paul Storr made 6,900 and a pair of foldover rosewood card tables made 4,400.

    BRIDGE OVER THE AWBEG AT BUTTEVANT CASTLE

    An unframed, unsigned pencil sketch – “Bridge over the Awbeg at Buttevant Castle” – comes up at  Aidan Foley’s online auction at Doneraile today.  Lot 301 dates to the 1840’s and seems to be in good condition.  A purchaser might set out to solve the mystery of who made it.  The auction features a broad mix of antique furniture and collectible items as well as art by Albert Hartland, Arthur Maderson, Pauline Bewick, Con Campbell, Lorna Miller, Marie Carroll and others.

    A selection of furniture, art, silver , garden furniture and jewellery will come under the hammer at Hegarty’s online sale in Bandon tomorrow. Among the highlights are an 18th century Irish silver teapot made in Dublin in 1796 and a silver fork by the Limerick maker Maurice Fitzgerald.  Lots of note include an exceptional pair of bronze garden classical lions and a mid 18th century Irish Georgian tea table.
