    IRISH DINING TABLE SELLS FOR 70,000 AT COURTOWN AUCTION

    An impressive Irish Gillingtons style c1820 mahogany dining table sold for two times its top estimate at the James Adam sale of contents from Courtown House, Kilcock, Co. Kildare today  It made a hammer price of 70,000 over an estimate of 25,000-35,000. Attributed to Gillingtons of Dublin the table is designed to be used either as a single piece or as three separate tables.  It can be traced back to the original Courtown House contents auction in 1963.  The table is on quadruped pillar supports.   Gillingtons were a Dublin firm of cabinet makers in the early years of the 19th century. The table had been estimated at 25,000-35,000.
    Also from the dining room at Courtown House is a rare pair of George III mahogany dining room pedestals after a design by Gillows. sold for 20,300 and a pair of gilt torcheres by del Vecchio of Dublin sold for 28,000.  A gilt wood table attributed to the English maker Matthias Locke sold for 20,000.  The table was originally at Crton House.
