    HISTORIC POCKET WATCH AT LIMERICK AUCTION

    A Swiss made gold pocket watch with historic British connections comes up at O’Donovan’s auction in Newcastlewest Co. Limerick on July 4. It was presented by Stanley Owen Buckmaster, who served as Lord Chancellor in the Asquith coalition government of 1915-16 during the First World War, to an old friend in memory of his father John Charles Buckmaster who died in 1908. John Charles Buckmaster was the founder of Teddington Library near Twickenham in London in 1904. The auction is online at Easy Live Auction and the watch is estimated at 300-400.

    AN 1827 IRISH LANGUAGE EDITION OF THE OLD TESTAMENT

    An 1827 edition of the Old Testament printed in Irish in Dublin and a 19th century ebonised credenza are among the highlights at a sale in Newcastlewest, Co. Limerick on November 11.  The auction by O’Donovan and Associates will include a large collection of cinema posters from Latchfords Cinema in Newcastlewest in the 1960’s.

    A HOUSE SALE IN LIMERICK WITH ORIENTAL LOTS

    Satsuma vases, blue and white jardinieres, Oriental porcelain plaques on stands, a four panel screen with ebony frame, figures and carvings, cloisonné ware, cabinets, tables and lamps will come under the hammer at a house sale in Limerick city on February 18.  O’Donovan and Associates of Newcastle West will offer the contents of Manderville House at Fort Mary Park (opposite the Gaelic Grounds) on the instructions of the representatives of the late Mr. and Mrs. Terry McGowan.
    The late Terry McGowan spent some time in Japan and many of the more than 250 lots on offer originated in the Far East.  All are to be sold without reserve.  The catalogue is online. Here is a small selection:
