The Figure of Six ash chair from 2006 by Joseph Walsh is, at 6,000-9,000, the most expensively estimated piece of furniture at
de Veres evening Design Auction at the Royal College of Physicians, Kildare St. on May 22. The work of this Cork based designer is at the Pompidou, Paris, Cooper Hewitt, New York, the Devonshire collection at Chatsworth, the Museum of Arts and Design, New York, the National Museum of Ireland and many other prestige collections.
The hammock like profile in a pedestal frame of the 1971 Falcon chair and stool by the Norwegian designer Sigurd Resell ensured its enduring popularity and a production lifeline that went on for more than 30 years. The one at de Veres is estimated at 1,000-1,500.
The auction of 200 lots features Danish sideboards, coffee tables, settees and easy chairs, Italian console tables, bars and lamps. wall mirrors, easy chairs, coffee tables and shelves. Designers featured range from Eero Saarinen, Niels Otto Moller and Charles and Ray Eames to Sir Norman Foster and Philippe Starck. There are shelves and lamps by sculptor Patrick O’Reilly and art by Patrick Scott, Sean Scully, Felim Egan, Mark Francis, Willie Doherty, Conor Fallon, Theo McNab and William Scott among 200 lots.
