  • HENRI’S LITTLE IRISH GIRL MAKES $197,000 AT SOTHEBY’S

Little Irish Girl by Robert Henri sold for $197,000 at Sotheby’s in New York.

A Little Irish Girl made $197,000 at Sotheby’s sale of American Paintings, Drawings and Sculpture in New York on April 11. ¬†The early 20th century painting by Robert Henri (1865-1929) was the cover lot on the catalogue for a sale which brought in over $4 million. ¬†Henri was one of the organisers of the Armoury Show in New York a century ago and became leader of the movement known as the Ash Can School. His students at the New York School of Art included Edward Hopper and Joseph Stella.

He was a regular visitor to Achill Island in Ireland and he finally purchased a house here in 1924. Little Irish Girl almost doubled its pre-sale high estimate of $100,000.
