One of a pair of Italian giltwood sofas, Genoa, circa 1740-1744
A pair of Italian giltwood sofas made €345,600 at Sotheby’s evening sale of contents from the Parisian residence of His Highness Sheikh Hamad Bin Abdullah Al Thani. They had originated from the Galleria Dorata, Palazzo Carrega-Cataldi, (now Chamber of Commerce), Via Garibaldi, Genoa, Italy. They rank among the very best of mid-18th-century Genoese Baroque cabinetmaking. Following three successful auctions totalling €12.8 million, with 100% of lots sold, two further sales continue until November 9.
