A pair of Irish silver loving cups and a silver pilgrim flask from The Curragh in 1909 feature at Sotheby’s Arts of Europe auction in London on July 10. The cups are by Thomas Bolton, Dublin 1735 and are estimated at £6,000-8,000. Mr. Bolton was Lord Mayor of Dublin in 1714 and gave his name to Bolton St. in the city.
The Irish silver pilgrim flask by West and Sons dates to 1909. It is inscribed as follows: ‘1909 TURF CLUB CUP RUN CURRACH SEPTEMBER MEETING WON BY “BACHELOR’S LODGE”, BRED AND OWNED BY JOSEPH LOWRY TRAINED BY MICHAEL DAWSON’ and is estimated at £20,000-30,000.
