An online-only auction of Vintage Couture: Handbags, Luggage and Accessories opens at Christie’s on April 18 and runs to May 2. Building on the notable demand for vintage fashion the auction offer buyers around the world a chance to bid on 71 lots. There are iconic jewellery designs by jewellers Kennth Jay Lane and Joseff of Hollywood, luxury handbags and luggage by Hermes, Chanel and Louis Vuitton. Estimates range from £200 to £8,000.
Clare Borthwick of Christie’s said the sale has been designed to meet the growing demand for vintage items. Interest is expected from around the world. “The fashion industry is seeing a continuing trend towards vintage items with increasing interest in jewellery and accessories from the latter half of the 20th century”.
