Antique Irish side tables made prices ranging from £31,250 to £46,850 at Christie’s in London on March 16. At the same sale a late 19th century Irish ormolu hexagonal hall lantern once at Castle Hyde in Fermoy, Co. Cork sold for £9,375. Last sold at Christie’s in 1993 it was from the property of the late F.C. Quinn, Mount Kennedy House. Co. Wicklow and featured in a sale of three private collections.
The most expensive table was a c1760 Irish George II table with lion mask frieze. It made £46,850. A table of similar vintage with scallop shell frieze made £39,250. Both had been estimated at £40,000-60,000. An Irish George II side table with later breccia marble top above a frieze once in the collection of Simon Sainsbury made £31,250 over an estimate of £20,000-30,000.
