FOR the first time ever Christie’s will hold an on-line auction to complement the sales of the Elizabeth Taylor Collections in New York in December. The auction house has identified 950 items of fine and costume jewelry, designer fashion and accessories, and decorative arts and objects to be offered in a two-week-long online-only sale.
The sale goes on view from November 18 at www.christies.com/etonlineonly. From December 3 interested bidders will be able to register on-line and start placing bids in a timed auction to run concurrently with the public exhibition and live auctions of The Collection of Elizabeth Taylor at Christie’s New York. For easy navigation, the online-only sale is divided into four categories – Fine Jewelry, Fashion & Accessories, Costume Jewelry, and Decorative Arts and Memorabilia.
UDATE: Christie’s first ever on-line only auction brought in over $9.5 million in additional sales from the collection. It generated over 57,000 bids.
