    There will be a mix bag of lots at Mealy’s autumn thrift sale in Castlecomer, Co. Kilkenny on September 22. Estimates are very reasonable for a sale that includes a carved and lacquered oriental chest (150-250), a Regency period ebony strung table (80-120), a 19th century French vinyard clock (40-60) and a 17th century style oak dresser (180-250).  The catalogue is online.

    MID SUMMER SALE AT MEALY’S ON JULY 31

    Unusual antique composition group with Daniel O’Connell  UPDATE: THIS MADE 1,500 AT HAMMER

    An unusual composition group of Daniel O’Connell meeting a group of catholics clad in local costume is the catalogue cover lot for for Mealy’s mid-summer sale in Castlecomer on July 31 at 11 am.  On an oval base under a glass dome it is estimated at 500-800.

    Among the other collectible items on offer is a scale painted wooden model of the Titanic in red, white and black (500-550) and a heavy copper and brass mounted divers helmet on a wooden base (380-450).

    A set of French Art Deco dining chairs is estimated at 3,000-5,000 and an Art Deco macassar ebony dining table with two extension leaves has an estimate of 8,000-15,000.

    Viewing gets underway in Castlecomer today for this one day auction of over 600 lots. It will include fine and decorative art, antique furniture, garden furniture and interiors from a variety of private estates and collections.  The catalogue is online.

    The spring fine art sale at Mealy’s in Castlecomer on March 28 and 29 will comprise 1,000 lots.  The sale will include the collection of an Irish gentleman of title, comprising period paintings, furniture, and decorative arts; the entire contents of a country house in the South East of Ireland – on the instructions of the representatives of the estate;  a private collection of guns and other militaria, with rare examples not seen on the market for decades; fine family silver previously held at an Irish bank vault; and a diverse selection of fine art, antiques, and interiors from other Irish estates and collections.  The catalogue is online.     SUCCESSFUL SUMMER SALE AT MEALY’S, CASTLECOMER

    A painting attributed to Franz Snyders (1579-1657) made a hammer price of 37,000 at Mealy’s summer sale in Castlecomer today. It had been estimated at 35,000-55,000.  The auction included paintings, furniture, silver, glass, ceramics and decorative objects from the collection of art history Professor Anne Crookshank, now living in retirement in Donegal.  The Francis Johnston (PRHA) gold medal presented to Anne Crookshank in 2004 sold for 750 and a large Regency period Irish circular dining table made a hammer price of 5,000 in a successful sale where most lots found buyers.

    The sale realised 240,000 with 77% of lots sold.

    INTERESTING SELECTION AT MEALY’S CASTLECOMER CHRISTMAS SALE

    The hugely interesting selection at the Christmas sale at Mealy’s in Castlecomer on December 14  includes an Irish Labour Party and Trades Union Congress investigation with evidence from over 70 witnesses on Who Burnt Cork City published in 1921.  There is antique furniture and silver, a circular Lalique bowl, a Louis Vuitton lady’s travelling vanity case and a wine and port section with which to celebrate the season in considerable style.  The catalogue is online.

    DIVERSE RANGE AT MEALY’S AUTUMN SALES IN CASTLECOMER

    At Mealy’s autumn auction in Castlecomer, Co. Kilkenny on October 20 and 21 punters can take their chance on items as diverse as a c1795 Irish flintlock man stopper pistol, a c1710 Queen Anne walnut bureau, an Irish cottage interior by Edward Fitzpatrick or a Cheval Blanc 1970 St. Emilion grand cru classe.  This sale includes a private Irish collection of wine, vintage port, champagne and whisky.
