    DELANEY SCULPTURES AT FONSIE MEALY’S AUCTION

    The Carnal Series is the title of these pieces by the sculptor Edward Delaney, RHA (1930 – 2009). They come up as part of a collection of sculptures by the artist at Fonsie Mealy’s autumn fine art sale in Castlecomer on September 28, 29 and 30. The set of four variant silver alloy statues depicting alternative poses of sexual acts, each initialled and hall marked, gifted by the sculptor to the Honourable Garech Browne, are estimated at 2,000-3,000. There are a number of works by Edward Delaney from the Luggala collection of Garech Browne in the auction.

    EASTER SUNDAY AUCTION IN CONNEMARA

    Ballyconneely in Connemara is the venue for an Easter Sunday art and antique auction at 2 pm tomorrow.  Dolan’s art auction house will offer nearly 400 lots at a sale timed to coincide with the busy Bank Holiday weekend in the west of Ireland. Dolan’s holiday auctions in Connemara are always crowd pullers and this one features art by Kenneth Webb, Hughie O’Donoghue, Edward Delaney, Sean Keating, Harry Kernoff,  Sean McSweeney, George Campbell, Norah McGuinness, Tony O’Malley, Charles Harper, Mark O’Neill, Carina Scott, Arthur Maderson and many more.

    There are some vintage toy cars by makers like Triang and Dinky, a Hornby train set, a set of three antique ebony elephants with ivory tusks, ebonised and inlaid cabinets, antique furniture including easy chairs, dining chairs, a sofa table, long case clocks, rugs, porcelain, silver and glass. Estimates for the art on offer range from a couple of hundred euro to 12,500, the top estimate for an orange cat tapestry by Graham Knuttel.  This is inscribed “Tapisserie D’Aubusson Felletin” and the estimate is 7,500-12,500.

    IRISH ART AT DE VERES ON JUNE 16

    There is Landscape and abstract art and sculpture by some of Ireland’s leading artists de Veres in Dublin on June 16. The auction of 105 lots includes  Pony in a Connemara Garden by Gerard Dillon (30,000-40,000), Reclining Figure by Dan O’Neill (14,000-18,000), Stephen’s Green, Dublin by Louis le Brocquy (8,000-12,000), Tony O’Malley’s Good Friday/Easter Sunday (12,000-18,000), Peter Curling’s Horse Fair at Goresbridge (20,000-25,000) and Return of Ulysses by Hughie O’Donoghue (8,000-12,000).

    Other lots include a sculpture by Edward Delaney, A Family, (8,000-12,000); Campsite, Poppintree, North County Dublin by Maurice MacGonigle (10,000-15,000); Colin Middleton’s Alders, Rabbit Island (8,000-12,000) and The Breaking Wave, Garretstown Beach by Patrick Hennessy (3,000-5,000).  The catalogue is online.
