A self portrait by Christy Brown, from the archive of the author and artist to be sold in March 2014, will be on view at Bonhams, Molesworth St., Dublin on October 4 and 5 next. It is among a small slection of writings, paintings and private letters on view in his native city.

The archive  includes a series of letters written by Christy to Katriona Maguire between 1946-76, the self portrait in which he imagines himself as a violinist and a small selection of photographs from boyhood onwards.

Christy Brown (1931-1981) published his best selling autobiography My Left Foot in 1954. In 1989 the actor Daniel Day Lewis won the first of his three Academy Awards for Best Actor for his portrayal of the writer.
